Abstract

The development of digital information technology does not completely positively impact the family's social life. The decrease in time with family members, the increasing individualism, and the lack of interaction in the family is part of the negative impact that must be anticipated. This paper discusses several prominent issues relating to efforts to prevent the negative impact of digital technology in the matrilineal family, especially in Minangkabau. To address this issues, a comprehensive review of the literature was conducted. A number of relevant articles are gathered and sorted into three categories: the development of digital technology in the family, digital literacy in matrilineal family, and establishing digital literacy in the matrilineal family. Based on the analysis, it suggests that there are a few things that should be done by parents to prevent the negative impact of digital technology such as increasing the knowledge of parents (father, mother, and mamak or maternal brother), commitment to use healthy digital technology, providing a variety of fun activities, understanding the norms and ethics that apply in using digital technology and involve all family members to participate in controlling the use of technology.
