Andragoguegy Studies in a Learning Approach in the Minangkabau Family

Abstract


Learning in the Minangkabau matrilineal family is based on the responsibility of the mamak in guiding and educating his nephews. This study examines the andragogical learning done by mamak to nephews in the education of the Minangkabau family. The research objective was to analyze the category of learning approach applied by mamak to nephews based on the assumptions of adult learning. The theoretical studies discussed in this research are about mamak and nephews in Minangkabau, the kinship system in Minangkabau, and andragogical learning. The research method used is descriptive quantitative. The population in this study were 40 people living in the village of Singguling, Lubuk Alung District, Padang Pariaman with the age group of 20-29 years and the status of a nephew (having a biological mother) and unmarried. The research sample consisted of 40 people who were taken using purposive sampling technique. The data collection tool as used in the current study was questionnaire. The findings show that the andragogical learning approach carried out by mamak to nephews in the Minangkabau family is in a good category.
