Welcome to NFEIC 4th 2024
It is our honour to invite and welcome you to The 4th Non Formal Education International Conference (NFEIC) 2024, Department of Non-formal Education, Faculty of Education, Universitas Negeri Padang which will be heldon October 24, 2024, at https://webinar.unp.ac.id/. The conference is organized by Department of Non Formal Education Faculty of Education Universitas Negeri Padang.
Background
Lifelong learning has emerged as a cornerstone in the global effort to promote inclusive and sustainable societies. It is a key driver for achieving social cohesion, fostering economic growth, and empowering individuals to adapt to rapidly changing technological, environmental, and social landscapes. In the context of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, lifelong learning is explicitly recognized in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which aims to "ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all." Specifically, Target 4.7 emphasizes the importance of education in fostering sustainable development, human rights, gender equality, global citizenship, and appreciation of cultural diversity.
In today’s fast-paced world, characterized by technological advancements, climate crises, and persistent social inequalities, lifelong learning serves as a transformative tool for addressing these global challenges. According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), more than 754 million adults worldwide still lack basic literacy skills, and many are left behind due to barriers such as poverty, discrimination, and lack of access to education. Nonformal education, which offers flexible, diverse, and accessible learning opportunities, plays a critical role in bridging these gaps, especially for marginalized communities. It provides a powerful platform for delivering skills, knowledge, and competencies to individuals who may not have access to formal education systems, ensuring that no one is left behind.
In light of this global need, the Department of Non-Formal Education, Faculty of Education, Universitas Negeri Padang, is organizing the International Conference on Transformative Approaches to Lifelong Learning for Empowering Inclusive and Sustainable Societies. This event is timely as it aims to align educational initiatives with the broader goals of the SDGs, particularly focusing on how nonformal education can contribute to achieving inclusive, equitable, and quality lifelong learning for all.
The conference will bring together educators, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to engage in meaningful dialogue, share best practices, and explore innovative approaches that ensure the future of lifelong learning in inclusive and sustainable societies. With a focus on adult education, community empowerment, and inclusive learning models, this conference will underscore the pivotal role of nonformal education in fostering inclusive growth, reducing inequalities, and promoting sustainable development across all segments of society.
By addressing these key areas, the conference will contribute to the global discourse on lifelong learning, highlighting the transformative potential of nonformal education in realizing the vision of sustainable, inclusive, and resilient societies envisioned by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This event provides a platform for discussions that not only address the immediate educational challenges but also inspire long-term, systemic change to create societies that are empowered, inclusive, and equipped for the future.
